Default Do you choose your own religion?

Mostly us have grown to our religion because they are the religion of our family since we were a boy. And so have you chosen different religion now that you are adult. Or do you still to your religion that you have been born into. What is your belief about religion. Do you think that once you were born into one religion that you should live throughout your life with that religion. Or do you think that you should just choose or decide your own religion. Are you searching for a true Religion?

My parents are both catholics and I was baptized as a catholic. I have grown to be catholic and I don't think I'll be changing my religion. However, I have known some person who changed their religion as they grew up but I am not against those moves. A person has his own right to choose his own religion where he thinks would make him a better person.

most catholics don't want to change because they think that they are committing a sin by doing so and they believe that they should really stick to what they were born into. I was once a catholic. I thought that i will not want to change religion. but once i have heard different teachings i just realized religion is not really enough for me.

I don't agree on that. The church does not really forbid its parishioners if they wish to move to another religion. Just like you have said, you were once a catholic and eventually changed your religion.

i do not believe that personally i need a religion, and hence it is irrelevant for me to decide to change my religion. i do not, however, prescribe this for others!

as for the religion of my birth, i am very happy with it in the sense that it gives me the freedom to explore and to reason and question things and it is not all binding and destroying any quest for a meaningful intellectual search. in that sense, i am quite happy with it, and i don't think i will ever need to convert to another religion. trying to understand my own religion will answer all my questions in a no-nonsensical way

I personally think it is a lot of effort to go out there and do your own research and then see which religion suits you the best! I think less than 1% of the people will even bother about it! Instead we are always happy believing that the religion we are born into is the only true religion, our god is the only true god and all that stuff, without even knowing one bit about the evolution of our own religion or any knowledge about other religions. this really saddens me at times!

I 100% agree with you, fortknox. I'm a Catholic and was born as one. I was baptized when I was only 3 days old. Until now I never have intentions to change my religion.

I never heard that leaving a religion, i.e. Catholic, is considered as a sin.

I think religion is a way you were chosen or choose to communicate with God. So, no religion is better than others. It's just something that your feel comfortable to "talk" with The Greatest.
