The 'Bill Gates' thing is irrelevant - it is a 'levels of analysis' error. Using a single individual to argue a generic case is not only in error it is dangerous. You would not cite the example of Mark Chapman to 'disprove' stalking etc.
The question is valid - I have a degree in Psychology - it does not qualify me for any job - other than to assist another Psychologise who ahs already taken the extra courses necessary. when I finshed my degree I was dismayed to find that i then had to study further if I wanted to use it. This is not the case with I.T. or business studies etc - so the degree alone is useless.

Thats an interesting question. Ive just graduated with a BA Hons in Economics and i can honestly say you dont need a degree to become successful in life. When i was a lot younger i always thought having that degree would give me a better job, more money, and a happier life and now that ive finished studying i feel totally different. Dont get me wrong having a degree is something to be proud of and i would discourage anyone from obtaining one. However, i honestly feel you can do just as well without one. Many of my freinds didnt attend university and are now earing in excess of £25,000, whereas i am struggling to even get a job. My main downfall, when ever i go for an interview, they say you have very little experince, well thats because i was studying for the past three years. I feel employers are now looking for candidates with experince.
