Default Question of coke
There is a promotion in hotel, they are selling a coke with $1.50 per tin. At the same time, if you can exchange 3 empty tin to 1 tin of coke.
And now, you have $30, and the question is what is the maximum coke you can drink?

Assume that you can even drink 100 of tins.

20/3= 6 (+ 2 empty tins)
8/3= 2 (+ 2 empty tins)
4/3= 1 (+ 1 empty tin)

So, if I haven't miss anything, the answer should be I can drink 29 tins of coke.

I like the way you answer the question. Very clear and systematic
50% of people are given answer 29 but unfortunately this is not the correct answer.

ok i am guessing, see with $30 at a rate of $1.50 per tin, 20 tins can be bought .and if at a rate of exchanging 3 empty tin to 1 tin an extra of 6 tins we can get.

so, for me the answer is 20+6=26

but if it is wrong then i'll answer it 20 tins ??
coz of your sentence (At the same time, if you can exchange 3 empty tin to 1 tin of coke.) and at the time i only have $30 with no empty can..

Seem No one can provice the right answer on this Math question. The correct answer is "30".
$1.5 per tin and 3 empty tin can trade 1 tin
In this case, i take 3 tins, need to pay $3 (since 3 empty tin can exchange 1 tin)
if i spend $3 can get 3 tins, mean that if i have $30, i can drink 30 tins

Mmm... this is tricky!

The text wasn't saying anything about "borrowing" a tin and a seller wouldn't give you away 3 tins for $3 with the "promise" that you would bring back the empty tins :wond:

3 empty tin can trade 1 tin means that $4.50 ($1.50X3) can buy 4 tins. Ain't it?


My solution would be:

First round, he will use the entire $30 to buy 20 tins ($30/$1.50=20).

After drinking all the 20 coke, he has 20 empty tins and he can exchange them for 6 tins. (20/3=6r2)

After drinking the 6 tins, he will exchange 8 empty tins for 2 more tins (6+2)/3=2r2

He will then drink the 2 tins and exchange the 4 empty tins for 1 more tin (2+2)/3=1r1

He will then finish up the last tin.

Total tins drank= 20 +6 +2 +1 = 29 tins
