So what's your favourite period of history?

For me, here in the UK, it's got to be the 17th century. The Civil War, the execution of Charles I, Cromwell's Republic, the Restoration, the Glorious Revolution... Shakespeare, Pepys, Milton...

Endlessly fascinating!

Anyone else?
